Hope Haven Homeless Ministries

Please Like Us On Facebook

Hope Haven depends on many types of givers to operate. Most of our supporters are individual's who have a heart for the ministry of Hope Haven. Many supporters are however businesses in the community and even out of state. These supporters are just as important and caring as the individuals but unlike individuals they desire recognition for what they do. This is how they grow their businesses and in return give back to that community that visits them. So, we ask that you patronize them for their good works which they do for Hope Haven Gospel Mission.

Since the list is long we have placed it on our sister site:

Homeless Vets: Some Unique Issues

Homeless vets present some special problems and needs for society and for themselves. Some wars have been so unpopular with the American public that returning veterans were vilified personally. These young men and women, many of whom were drafted into the Vietnam era military service, when returned they encountered a harsh and confusing reaction from those who were protesting the war. These and other factors put a special burden upon these veterans. Today, there is another generation of young people who are ending up in homeless shelters or who are living on the streets with no hope for a better living situation.

Post traumatic stress disorder has been called by other names, but has become well known amongst the men and women who served in Vietnam. A number of factors contributed to this psychological and emotional reactions. Some of the symptoms include a feeling of alienation from society and difficulty in being around groups. Vets with PTSD may have a hard time holding a job. They may have difficulty in staying in one place for long. There was no financial help available for Vietnam era vets originally to the extent that there is now. Many of those who are homeless have been without help for so long that only comprehensive services and treatment will help to provide improvement in their emotional and psychological state.

Excerpts for the article "The Reasons Behind Homelessness In Maine"

One of the most obvious reasons for homelessness is the shortage of housing. Many poor families cannot afford to rent or buy a property.

The other reasons for being homeless are caused by loss of loved ones, domestic violence, divorce, abuse, or job loss. Other factors such as depression or mental illness can also be responsible for the large portion of homeless people.

Nowadays, divorce costs and a family's low income can play havoc with their finances. Some families cannot manage to pay their bills due to serious illnesses or disabilities, thus they get pushed out on the streets. Today, the recession has also caused unexpected loss of jobs and increasing number of foreclosures which have all left many families without a roof over their heads.

Over the past 20 years, the level of homelessness in Maine has risen, despite the governments increased focus on this issue.

People living in the streets cannot wait for a few more years. Their needs are urgent and they need the help of their community.
